CLICK THE BLUE TITLE ABOVE TO READ THE FULL ARTICLE – Please help keep our Earth healthy! Please send all your dead batteries to Williamsburg. There is a Battery Drop off box in the office. The ECO Club will send them off to be recycled.
We use batteries on a daily basis, whether to power our clock, our digital cameras, watches, flash lights or MP3s. A battery is essentially a power supply that lets us power our electronic devices without connecting them to electricity.
Though the chemical composition of batteries varies by type, all batteries contain toxins that leach into the environment if they are thrown into our landfills. Battery toxins include mercury, nickel and lead.
If these toxins get burned, they can pollute water systems and increase levels of lead and acid in the environment. Throwing batteries into landfills means they will eventually pollute, whereas recycling promotes a less toxic air and water quality.
Thanks for recycling your batteries!
