3. Inclement Weather Policy
Looking ahead to wintery weather, here is an update from WRDSB on how decisions are made about bus cancellations and school closures:
– Student Transportation Services of Waterloo Region (STSWR) bus operators start monitoring road and weather conditions early in the morning and any recommendations to make any bus cancellations or school closures is discussed with the Director of Education
– Transportation cancellations do not automatically mean schools are closed
– WRDSB tries to make bus cancellation/closure decisions 6:00 a.m.
– Information about bus cancellations/closures is posted on: 1. The WRDSB website www.wrdsb.ca 2. Our school websitehttp://wlm.wrdsb.ca/ 3. The WRDSB Twitter account @wrdsb 4. Local Media such as http://www.570news.com/
How do frigid temperatures affect closures?
– Frigid temperatures are temperatures at -35ºC with wind chill or colder
– Schools will NOT be automatically closed when temperatures reach –35°C or colder with wind-chill. While buses will not operate, the decision to close schools will be dependent on weather and road conditions.
– Environment Canada’s wind chill index is monitored by 5:30am
– Schools may be open to students who can safely arrive at school under supervision or direction of their parents. Please stay up to date by checking the websites listed above or by listening to school information given on local radio stations.
