3. Photos with Flare

The Me to We Club arranged for Flare (our school mascot) to be here this Thursday for some Festive Photos.  All money will be donated to the TLC Foundation to help children and families in our community.

4. Book Fair

Our Scholastic Book Fair is on now and continues until Friday.  Here are the hours for today and tomorrow:
– Thurs. Dec. 15th – 8:30 am – 4:30 pm
– Fri. Dec. 16th – 8:30 am – 4:00 pm

Stop in and shop at the Book Fair.  We would love to see you there!

5. Williamsburg Food Drive

From December 12th to 16th, Williamsburg Public School will be collecting non-perishable food donations for the Waterloo Region Food Bank. During the week, students are encouraged to bring in donations such as cans of soup, peanut butter, pasta, canned fruit or vegetables. The donations will be picked up by the Food Bank on Friday Dec 16.

6. Inclement Weather Policy
Looking ahead to wintery weather, here is an update from WRDSB on how decisions are made about bus cancellations and school closures:

– Student Transportation Services of Waterloo Region (STSWR) bus operators start monitoring road and weather conditions early in the morning and any recommendations to make any bus cancellations or school closures is discussed with the Director of Education

– Transportation cancellations do not automatically mean schools are closed

– WRDSB tries to make bus cancellation/closure decisions 6:00 a.m.

– Information about bus cancellations/closures is posted on: 1. The WRDSB website www.wrdsb.ca 2. Our school website http://wlm.wrdsb.ca/ 3. The WRDSB Twitter account @wrdsb 4. Local Media such as http://www.570news.com/

How do frigid temperatures affect closures?

– Frigid temperatures are temperatures at -35ºC with wind chill or colder

– Schools will NOT be automatically closed when temperatures reach –35°C or colder with wind-chill.  While buses will not operate, the decision to close schools will be dependent on weather and road conditions.

– Environment Canada’s wind chill index is monitored by 5:30am

– Schools may be open to students who can safely arrive at school under supervision or direction of their parents.  Please stay up to date by checking the websites listed above or by listening to school information given on local radio stations.
