Hello Parents,

Here are this week’s updates:

1. Winter Green Fundraiser and Coat Drive – Thank you to all families who supported the Winter Green Fundraiser. We will update you in the year with the amount of money that we raised. And we also want to thank all of the families who donated winter coats, boots, mitts and hats. We will be sending them off to 2 local schools to help children in need.

2. Food Drive – We are so fortunate that Williamsburg is a generous caring community! During the week of December 10th to 14th, the school will be collecting non-perishable items to donate to the Waterloo Region Food Bank. Please send any donations in with your child during this week. Items that are most needed are: canned meat and fish, tomato sauce, dried beans, canned stews and chili, pasta, rice, cereal, soup, and canned fruit. Thank you for supporting our community!

3. Lego Club Donations – Lego Club is up and running again for our grade two and three students. This a very popular club with many students attending each week. This club has been made possible thanks to many donations of Lego from homes where it was no longer being used. If your family has any Lego you are no longer using, please consider donating it to the school. It will be put to good use!

4. Lost and Found – Our Lost and Found is full and overflowing! Encourage your children to take a look for missing items. We will set out Lost and Found items for parents to check during our Holiday Concerts on December 19th and 20th. Any items that have not been picked up by December 20thth will be donated.

5. HERO GEM UPDATE – This month we are focusing on safety as it an important component of our new code of conduct. This is a great time of year to review our code of conduct with your children. It can be found on page 6 of your child’s planner.

6. Canadian Music Class Challenge – Williamsburg is taking part in the CBC Music Class Challenge again this year. Here is a link to see our submission: https://www.youtube.com/WilliamsburgMusicClassChallenge . Here is some background info about the Challenge: Every fall, CBC Music in association with MusiCounts — the charity of the Juno Awards — launches a contest to engage music classes across the country with Canadian music. It’s called The Canadian Music Class Challenge. (https://www.cbcmusic.ca/musicclass)  There are three goals to this project: 1. We want kids to learn Canadian music in the classroom. 2. We want to draw attention to the exceptional work music teachers are doing with children across the country. 3. We want to reinforce the importance of music in a well-rounded education. Here are the next steps: Dec.11: top 10 in each category released, Dec.18: winners announced. Thanks to Mrs. Stanzel for working with our Williamsburg kids to put this together!
