Hello Parents,

Here are this week’s updates:

1. Important Paperwork – This is a friendly reminder to complete and return your child’s first day paperwork. This includes your Data Verification, Media Release, and Medical Forms. It is very important that the office and your child’s teacher have the most up to date and accurate information.

2. Pizza for the Month of October – Pizza is held every Thursday at 1st Nutrition Break from October through June. All orders for October must be placed on School-Day from September 19th to 26th. This is a great time to be sure that you are signed up on School-Day and have added all the students in your family that attend Williamsburg. Please call the school office if you need help getting registered (519-742-1848). More details about Pizza to follow next week.

3. Safety Drills – Please note that we will be conducting our mandatory safety drills over the next few weeks. These include: 3 Fire Drills and a Lockdown Drill. Feel free to talk with your children about these upcoming practice drills.

4. Junior Circuit and Walking Path – WE NEED YOUR HELP! Due to the need for direct supervision when students are on the climbing equipment (otherwise known as the junior circuit), the Circuit will be CLOSED before school and after school until 3:35. After our supervision ends at 3:35 and we are sure that all students are safely on their way home, students who have parents with them can play on the climber. Please remind your children that the circuit is closed before and after school.

5. Parking Lot – Please remember that our parking lot is for staff and visitors. For safety reasons, students are not to be dropped off or picked up in the parking lot. Students should not walk through the parking lot at all when coming to or leaving from school.

6. Police Checks – Thank you to those people who have already submitted their Police Checks to the school. A reminder that individuals wishing to volunteer at Williamsburg Public School for our Strong Start reading program, field trips or other interactions with students must have a Police Vulnerable Sector Check completed for the 2019-2020 school year.

To help make this process easier, we will provide parents wishing to volunteer with a letter from Ms. Noonan on school letterhead that indicates the reason that you are requesting the Police Vulnerable Sector Check. This will allow you to obtain the police check at a reduced rate of $10.00. Letters can be printed from School Files in School-Day or from Office Forms on our school website https://wlm.wrdsb.ca/forms/volunteer-letter-for-police-check/ OR you may pick up a letter from the Williamsburg office.

If you go to the Police Reporting Centre at 150 Maple Grove Road, Cambridge, most police checks can be completed while you wait. Police checks can then be submitted to the office and will be valid for the entire school year. (You may also apply on-line; however there is about a 3 week waiting period for on-line checks. Once the on-line request is processed, you can pick it up from several WRPS locations – www.wrps.on.ca/en/services-reporting/police-vulnerable-sector-check.aspx )

7. PD Day on September 20th – Our staff will be working and learning together at the school. But there will be NO school for students!

8. Lates – We are continuing to have a number of students coming to school late each day. When your child is late, she/he misses important routines in the classroom, and it impacts our office staff who have to help students get signed in and off to class. Please set your child up for success by having them arrive on time every day!
