Hello Parents,

Here are this week’s updates:

1. PD Day on September 20th – Our staff will be working and learning together at the school, but there will be NO school for students!

2. Important Paperwork – This is a friendly reminder to complete and return your child’s first day paperwork. This includes your Data Verification, Media Release, and Medical Forms. It is very important that the office and your child’s teacher have the most up to date and accurate information.

3. School Council – Thank you to all who sent back their self nomination forms and declared their candidacy for elected positions. We are able to declare the following positions:

  • Co-Chairs – Jamie Russell Reilly, Kimberly Thompson
  • Treasurer – Sue Lawrence

We hope to hold an election for the position of secretary. Our first school council meeting will be on Monday, September 30th at 6:00pm. We look forward to welcoming our new members

4. Pizza Orders for October due by Thursday, September 26th – We are pleased to let you know that Pizza Days are starting up again! Our first Pizza Day is on Thursday, October 3rd. Pizza is served at 1st Nutrition Break each Thursday for those students who have pre-ordered and pre-paid. Orders for October 3, 10, 17, 24, and 31 will be taken on School-Day ONLY from today until Thursday, September 26th. No late orders will be accepted. A pink info form was sent home with each student outlining all the Pizza details. Pricing for 2019-20 is the same as last year: $1.50/pizza slice. See bottom of this step by step instructions for ordering.

5. Student Planner Scavenger Hunt Winners (Grades 1 to 6) – Congratulations to the 25 students whose names were drawn to win a free piece of pizza! Families have been notified by email if their child’s name was drawn. You are all great planner sleuths!

6. Terry Fox Run – September 26th – Students are asked to bring in a Toonie ($2) for Terry in support of cancer research on Thursday, September 26th. Our school goal is to raise $2,000!

7. Photo Day – September 27th – Our school photo day is fast approaching! Please remember to mark September 27th on your calendar. Individual photos are being taken that day. (Class group photos will be taken in the spring.)

  • What to wear: For best results, we recommend wearing bright, solid coloured clothing, but do not wear green
  • You will receive a portrait pass code a few weeks after photos are taken and can order packages at that time. There are no orders being taken on photo day.
  • On-line Ordering: You can view your child’s photos on over 40 different backgrounds before ordering after receiving your portrait pass code.
  • If you wish to get email notifications from Edge Imaging about photo day, go to https://edgeimaging.ca/photoday and enter our school code: BUG.

8. Police Checks – Thank you to those people who have already submitted their Police Checks this September. A reminder that individuals wishing to volunteer at Williamsburg Public School for our Strong Start Reading Program, field trips or other interactions with students must have a Police Vulnerable Sector Check completed for the 2019-2020 school year.

To help make this process easier, we will provide parents wishing to volunteer with a letter from Ms. Noonan on school letterhead that indicates the reason that you are requesting the Police Vulnerable Sector Check. This will allow you to obtain the police check at a reduced rate of $10.00. Letters can be printed from School Files in School-Day or from Office Forms on our school website https://wlm.wrdsb.ca/forms/volunteer-letter-for-police-check/ OR you may pick up a letter from the Williamsburg office.

If you go to the Police Reporting Centre at 150 Maple Grove Road, Cambridge, most police checks can be completed while you wait. Police checks can then be submitted to the office and will be valid for the entire school year. (You may also apply on-line; however there is about a 3 week waiting period for on-line checks. Once the on-line request is processed, you can pick it up from several WRPS locations –www.wrps.on.ca/en/services-reporting/police-vulnerable-sector-check.aspx)

9. Public Health Update – Parents, please remember to keep your child’s immunization records up-to-date with Public Health.

How to provide your records to Public Health:

On-line: www.regionofwaterloo.ca/ph

Phone: 519-575-4400 x 5001

Fax: 519-885-7260

The annual enforcement of the Immunization of School Pupils Act (ISPA) helps to keep our students and schools healthy. Immunization protects children from many diseases that are easily spread in schools.

Public Health will mail letters to those students with incomplete records. If you receive a letter, please arrange a visit with your health care provider to assess and update your child’s immunizations, and contact Public Health to update your child’s record or to place a legal exemption on file.
