October 3rd, 2019
Hello Parents,
Here are this week’s updates:
1. Terry Fox Update – Together as a school we raised $1755.25 for the Terry Fox Foundation. Way to go Williamsburg!
2. Attendance – A reminder that the expectation for students is that they will be at school every day and will arrive on time. However, if your child is going to be absent or late, please call or email the Attendance Line (before school if possible) and leave a message including the following information:
- The student’s name (please spell the last name)
- The teachers name
- The reason for the absence
- Phone: 519-742-1848 ext. 1
- Email: wlm-attendance@wrdsb.ca
3. Drop Off and Pick Up – We encourage parents to walk children to school as we have a shortage of parking near the school. If you do drive your children to school, please remember that the school parking lot is for staff and daycare parking only. There is no parking on Commonwealth Crescent and the manager of Goodlife has also asked that parents not use their lot for pick up and drop offs. Please look for space on other side streets where parking is permitted.
4. Pizza Day Details – Today was our first Pizza Day! Pizza is delivered to classes on Thursdays from October through June at first Nutrition Break (11:00/11:20 am) for those students who have pre-ordered and pre-paid. Orders are placed on a monthly basis on School-Day. Note, if your child is absent on pizza day, they will miss their order that day. The pizza will not be saved or re-distributed to friends or siblings.
5. Police Checks – Thank you to those people who have already submitted their Police Checks this September. A reminder that individuals wishing to volunteer at Williamsburg Public School for our Strong Start Reading Program, field trips or other interactions with students must have a Police Vulnerable Sector Check completed for the 2019-2020 school year.
To help make this process easier, we will provide parents wishing to volunteer with a letter from Ms. Noonan on school letterhead that indicates the reason that you are requesting the Police Vulnerable Sector Check. This will allow you to obtain the police check at a reduced rate of $10.00. Letters can be printed from School Files in School-Day or from Office Forms on our school website https://wlm.wrdsb.ca/forms/volunteer-letter-for-police-check/ OR you may pick up a letter from the Williamsburg office.
If you go to the Police Reporting Centre at 150 Maple Grove Road, Cambridge, most police checks can be completed while you wait. Police checks can then be submitted to the office and will be valid for the entire school year. (You may also apply on-line; however there is about a 3 week waiting period for on-line checks. Once the on-line request is processed, you can pick it up from several WRPS locations – www.wrps.on.ca/en/services-reporting/police-vulnerable-sector-check.aspx)
6. Hero Gems – Our focus for October is Resilience. “At Williamsburg we show resilience. When faced with a challenge we work to overcome it. When problems are small we have the tools to solve them. When problems are big we know how to get help.”
