Hello Parents,

Here are this week’s updates:

1. Last Call for December Pizza Orders – Pizza orders for each Thursday in December are due by today on School-Day. No late orders will be accepted. Also a reminder that any cash payments must be submitted in exact change to the office by 3:30 today. Unpaid orders cannot be processed. You are welcome to call the school office if you have any questions – 519-742-1848.

2. We need your help! – We continue to struggle with students arriving late to school. This week (Monday-Thursday) we had 142 lates, with 56 in one day! When students are late, it means that they are missing the routines at the beginning of the day. It also means that our office staff need to take the time to assist students with check-in and (in the case of Kindergarten) walk the students to class. This is taking up valuable time and slowing down our safe arrival calls, which is a priority for student safety. Please help us out by making sure that your child is lined up at the back of the school by 9:00am.

3. Food Drive – We are so fortunate that Williamsburg is a generous caring community! During the week of Dec. 9-13th, the school will be collecting non-perishable items to donate to the Waterloo Region Food Bank. Please send any donations in with your child during this week. Items that are most needed are: canned meat and fish, tomato sauce, dried beans, canned stews and chili, pasta, rice, cereal, soup, and canned fruit. Thank you for supporting our community!

4. French Program Information Nights for Parents of Senior Kindergarten Students – The Waterloo Region District School Board offers two French programs, both beginning in grade one. (https://www.wrdsb.ca/french/french-programs/ ). Information regarding the Core French Program and the grade one French Immersion Program was sent home last week. Both programs are designed to meet the needs of your child. Please take the time to read this brochure and all the information on this website link carefully before making your choice. In order to provide parents/guardians with information about the French Immersion Program, the following information sessions have been scheduled at the WRDSB Board Office at 51 Ardelt Avenue, Kitchener in the Cambridge Room:

Thursday, December 5 at 7:00 pm

Monday, December 9 at 12:00 pm

Monday, December 9 at 7:00pm

Monday, January 13 at 7:00 pm

On-line Registration for parents of SK students for the French Immersion program that begins in Grade 1 opens on Wednesday, January 8, 2020, at https://www.wrdsb.ca/french/

5. Cold and Wet Weather – The cold and wet weather has arrived! Please be sure to dress your children for the weather including coats, snow pants, boots, hats and mitts. The children will go outside to play at least 2 times each day and need to be warm and dry. Also be sure to allow yourselves extra time to get ready in the morning to ensure that kids still arrive to school on time. Our parking lot remains closed to parents in the winter, so please consider walking to school to avoid the congestion of vehicles near the school. It is also helpful to keep an extra change of clothes in your child’s backpack in case they get wet outside.

6. Hero Gems – As November comes to an end, so too does our focus on Gratitude. We encourage you to talk to your child about “finding the silver lining” when things go wrong. It is a great way to teach our children to find some good in each situation instead of focusing on the bad.
