November 8th, 2019
Hello Parents,
Here are this week’s updates:
1. Poppies for Remembrance Day – Canadians are fiercely proud of our Veterans… and during the period leading up to Remembrance Day, millions of Canadians wear a Poppy as a symbol of national pride and respect, and a visual pledge to never forget.
Students at Williamsburg will receive a poppy sticker to wear on November 11th. During the Poppy Campaign, thousands of Legion members from coast to coast to coast volunteer their time to distribute poppies and raise money that will support Veterans and their families in need. While Poppies are distributed at no cost, the Legion appreciates the generous donations to the Poppy Fund in support of serving and retired Veterans and their families.
Donations to the Poppy Fund are welcome to be sent into school with your child. Thank you for wearing a Poppy and supporting Canada’s Veterans.
2. Progress Reports (Gr. 1-6) – On November 11th, you will be receiving a Progress Report(s) for your child(ren) in Grade 1-6 or a Communication of Learning: Initial Observation for Kindergarten Students. The reports provide an opportunity for teachers to reflect on how your child is progressing through the first 10 weeks of their curriculum. Please review your child’s report and celebrate their many accomplishments. We encourage you to set goals with them in the areas where they can improve.
Your child’s teacher will be sending a parent-teacher conference form home this week. Please be sure to complete and return the form as indicated.
Kindergarten teachers will be sending home a form so parents can sign up for a classroom observation. Please be sure to complete and return the form as indicated.
3. Scholastic Book Fair – Our annual Scholastic Book Fair will be taking place on Tuesday, November 12th and Wednesday, November 13th from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm and on Thursday, November 14th from 8:30 am to 7:00 pm in the library. Please mark this exciting literary event on your calendars. This is a great opportunity to shop for the holidays while promoting reading and raising money for our school library.
Volunteers are an important part of running our Book Fair and we still have a great need for them! If you are available to help out with the Book Fair, please contact Mrs. Branje at nelita_branje@wrdsb.ca or call the school. High school students needing volunteer hours are also welcome to help out at the Book Fair.
We look forward to seeing everyone at our Book Fair. Until then, happy reading!
4. Pizza Fundraiser Pick-up November 13th – Thank you to all who ordered Little Caesar’s Pizza kits in support of our school fundraiser. All orders will be available for pick-up on Wednesday November 13th from 3:00pm till 6:00pm. Please be sure to come during this time period to pick up orders as we do not have freezer space to store items that have not been picked up. Remember, if the products thaw they can be refrozen once. Orders will be in the school gym for pick up. Please use the doors down by the gym (about halfway down the parking lot) to pick up your orders.
5. Used Winter Clothing/Gear Drive – If you have good condition winter gear (hats, mitts, boots, snow pants, coats) that your child has out grown please bring them in to the school on November 11th to November 15th for our Winter Clothing Drive. Parents can also bring in winter gear when they come in for parent teacher interviews.
6. Hero Gems – This month’s focus is Gratitude. As we reflect on Remembrance Day, we are grateful for those Canadians that sacrificed so greatly for us. Lest we Forget.
