Individuals wishing to volunteer for our Strong Start reading program, field trips and other interactions with students in the school this year, will be required to submit a Police Vulnerable Sector Check. We recognize that this is an extra step and expense for parents but we hope that you will agree that this is a small price to pay to ensure that the safety of our children IS NUMBER ONE!

The WRDSB’s policy states “that any volunteers who are in direct contact with students in a setting that is unsupervised by a staff member will be required to submit a police record check before being permitted to volunteer in that type of setting.” Since it is impossible for one staff member to supervise all students and volunteers while off school property on a field trip, field trips do fall under this policy.

To help make this process easier, we will provide individuals wishing to volunteer on field trips or in other ways in the school with a letter from Ms. Anderson on school letterhead that indicates the reason that you are requesting the Police Vulnerable Sector Check. This will allow you to obtain the police check at a reduced rate of $10.00. Please call the office to arrange a time for letter pick-up.

If you go to the Police Reporting Centre at 150 Maple Grove Road, Cambridge, most police checks can be completed while you wait. Police checks can then be submitted to the office and will be valid for the entire school year. (You may also apply on-line; however there is about a 3 week waiting period for on-line checks. Once the on-line request is processed, you can pick it up from several WRPS locations –  www.wrps.on.ca/en/services-reporting/police-vulnerable-sector-check.aspx )

We want to thank you in advance for your ongoing support. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to come in to the school to talk with Ms. Anderson or Mr. MacDonald.
